| My experience is with Gelbvieh-Shorthorn cross heifers. We started an AI program last year and lutylase'd some heifers. One went into labor the next day. Lost her and the calf. She was 14 months and about 800 - 850#. We thought it was just a fluke but this year preg-checked the heifers before we started heat-sync. Two were pregnant. One calved at 14 months and the other at 15 months. They were bred while still on the cows. This year we will give shots at weaning because I've seen the bulls trying to ride 450 - 500# heifers. Will also pull the bulls after 65 days. I just hope that they got the cows covered by that time. | |
