Alberta Canada |
Have quite a few calls for hay, want a discount because its sunny outside or their horse has 4.5legs you name it they have tried. My newest favorite one was back in Feb. Seemed the race horse owners were having trouble with their Feb cutting of hay and were forced to buy. :P They bought and paid for 12 big rounds, 17-1800lbs. Were picky when I loaded, wanted 2 switched out so figure humor them and do it. what another 5min in the warm tractor cab when its -30 out and their playing trucker/farmer. Get a call 6hrs later. Can we return the hay its too dry. This is shedded dust/mold free baled with not a drop of dew or rain on it, 13-14% moisture hay. I think not stick your garden hose on it. Have quite a few acreages that think its easy to make hay, a baler, haybine, rake, tractor makes you an instant pro..... have been haying for quite a few yrs, made some good black hay and had some years where you couldnt bale it black if you tried. Mostly luck and timing. Love how they cut on Friday night after work and bale on Sunday night before heading back to work, then if they have extra try and sell it for the same price they complained was too high. I price my hay what the market value is for my area, dont tell me how you bought 4 semi loads for x amount a bale from out of province and want the same price here where we have trouble with drought or rain. Go back where you bought from first....hmm sold out, supply and demand

I do have some regular customers that know where the producer is coming from with pricing, one stable said if the producer doesnt make money then where is the stable going to get hay next yr.
