I don't think so. The ladder is actually a more carefully considered item than I think you're giving it credit for in this case. As Chad says, it is designed to not only serve as the rear engine and platform access ladder, but is easily removed and provisions are provided to use it to access higher points on the sides of the machine as well. This avoids a menagerie of lower shielding to atttempt to provide access to a number of higher locations on these combines, all of which will need attention at some point, so it is actually cleaning up the sides of the machine by serving multiple purposes. Once you're around it, it's really quite a good idea. Sure, they could have integrated a fancy, single-purpose ladder into the shielding that requires a 3 step process to get the ladder where you want it pulling it out over your head just so that it tucks away neatly into the shielding, or make it more practical and easy to use. I'm glad that practicality won in this case.
