NW Iowa | Not a marketing expert by any means here, but the easy one to start with would be forward contracting. Just call up and depending on when you would like to deliver (ie new crop, Dec, Jan, etc.) get the current cash bid. I think right now around us, we're looking at $3.50 for new crop. Say I'll sell 1,000 bu for example. They send contract to sign, you drop grain off from the field and get paid. Pretty easy. Can also say sell 1,000 for example at $3.80 when it gets there if its around $3.65 (for example), then they will sell when/if it gets there. I only drop a certain percentage of my crop before it comes out mainly due to lack of on farm storage and to take advantage of the higher prices before hand and to reduce the $$$ of having it sit in storage. | |
