1083's are great heads. Deeres are more up to date in some areas. But they cut great and bullet proof gearboxes. Try to get oone with water pump front bearings. We never had that and greasing them isn't bad but time consuming. And its just convenient to not have to mess with it.

We had a 81 and 83 year 1083's for many years. Traded one for a 3408 since we went to a 6088
A lot of years and corn been shelled and not many issues so we can't complain
