SCMN | I have seen this a million times(but it still never gets old) and heard a million stories on how it happened. My guess would be he was coming down the hill with a full cart and the weight of that full cart pushing the seeder combined with it's kinetic energy when he slowed down for the bridge made the seeder/cart start whipping side to side. The implements probably pulled him off the road, dragging the tractor off the side of the bridge and ripping that one tire off the bead. Elementary dear Watson...
I had a similar experience with an empty pull between chemical tank and 960 field cultivator some years back. Empty tank in the middle, going downhill, slowed for bridge. digger pushed the tank side to side, whipping action ensued. It was like being chased by a giant metal snake from hell! I managed to save it in my case luckily because the bridge I was crossing was about 25 feet above the river. | |
