Subject: Group 2 Herbicide residues

Brandon MB
I switched from spraying wheat to canola beginning of last week. I had been spraying velocity, simplicity, stellar etc., basically a bunch of products with grp. 2 chemistries in them. I rinsed the sprayer and flushed the tank 3 times before I started, but didn't use any ammonia. I switched the tips so wasn't concerned about rinsing the tip screens. Now I have grp. 2 damage on the entire first tank-full I applied (100ac.). The next tank-full is fine, but the following morning when I started up it looks like I damaged about 15-20ac, that whole day was fine except for a little 1ac field that would of had some overlap, here again canola was damaged. Next day and 700ac. later I started up and again I killed the canola where I started, at first it was the entire boom, then it decreased to some strips, not a big deal, but still enough to tick a person off.

I've probably sprayed 200,000ac in the past 10 years and have NEVER had a problem even close to as bad as this one, I was disgusted with myself when I noticed it yesterday and disappointed to say the least. Its a new sprayer with AIM command, apparently I should have pulled the end caps off of the boom and blown it out?

Anybody else ever had an issue like this? I know when sundance (discontinued monsanto grp. 2) came out 10 years ago we were warned to rinse really well as it had a tendency to persist within the sprayer and cause problems like the above one I've had. Maybe its the velocity or simplicity? Both products I used last year without any problems. I could see if I damaged the first few acres of the field but 100? and then still showing up 2 days later after 700 acres? Unbelieveable :(
