NE Colorado | I get good kill but I hit it twice. the first pass is 1 qt of glyphosate and 2/3 pt 6 lb Lo vol 2,4d. The second pass, five days later is with 1 pt glyphosate and 3/4 ounce Aim. After about 10 days, it is pretty well fried. I have my own sprayer so it is easy for me to make the second pass.
I usually let the alfalfa get at least four inches of regrowth before I spray it, And I have much better luck killing it in the spring rather than in the fall after I take off the third cut, even if I do get good regrowth albeit it doesn't get four inches tall that late in the year.
And yes, there are a few plants that do survive. I've never seen an alfalfa plant resistant to glyphosate or 2,4d, but it could be there are a few that just happen to still be dormant or in a very slow stage of growth when I spray. If the alfalfa happens to be under drought stress there will be a lot of plants that survive.
I am not looking forward to RR alfalfa, I need more than just Aim and 2,4D to kill it. And after what I have seen in corn, I do not believe it will be possible to have alfalfa free of the RR gene. | |
