I would agree that Outback is plenty high on their antenna cables but you should know that they do use a very high quality low loss cable with teflon dielectric (white insulation between center wire and outter shield) and very dense shielding. The regular cable like Radio Shack uses will work but it may be more susceptable to allowing interference problems from RFI (less shielding) and may have higher signal loss (more loss across the dielectric) so in marginal signal conditions it could make a difference. If you go to a radio repair place that works on UHF radios they will have the proper low loss cable and should be able to make the assemblies for about half price (stuff usually available at electronics stores is good for vhf). You can also order the cable but I think it may only come in pretty big rolls. It is considerably higher priced than the cheaper stuff. Just wanted you to know there is a difference in case in some conditions you run into troubles. Probably will be fine with the cheaper stuff - I have used it in a pinch. John |
