Do you remember how to get to the "secret" menus? Need to check to see it responds to input for left/right, and whether it goes to full lock. You will defintely want to look at the "counts" you are getting from the potentiometer. Matter of fact since that is a JD part you may want to pick one up from the boys in Hanford.
Have you looked at the "graph" behind the nudge buttons?
