Subject: RE: Corn into bean stubble in south central MN - rolling beans

To build on what Jim said, given you area it may be difficult to have good soil conditions for planting corn into bean stubbles. It will often be too wet or too cold. In my area of SW Quebec quite a few farmers are using "residue pushers"... basically dual row cleaners that clear a strip of soil to allow it to dry up and warm up. Usually they will do a pass in the fall or a pass in the spring, or both. The cleared strips are ~8" wide. It's nothing like conventional strip tillage... actually it's not tillage at all. So useless if you need some kind of tillage done to loosen your soil. but great if tillage isn't needed. Up here most falls are too wet to get adequate strip tillage results. Other advantages of the "residue pusher" system is that it requires very little power (one guy around here uses an 8410T on a 24R mounted machine... large tractor is only required to lift the bar). Can go a good 10 mph + and cover lots of acres in very little time.

Let me know if you have questions.

Nick
