Forgot to reply, sorry about that.  I hate it when you help somebody and never find out the results or even if they followed your advice. 

I put a different drive in the computer and will pull an old computer out of my supply to try your suggestions.  Right now I'm kind of busy with other things and since this one is fixed it loses its priority.

The drive runs and Gibson's program ran for 50 hours to get 18% of it partially recovered.  At that point I pulled the plug (so's to speak) and just put in another drive so they could have the computer back.

They've lost some pictures and email address's but nothing serious.  I'm going to show them how to back some of that up on their CDRW.
