Got a JD 275 9 1/2' mower and I've never used my chains, in fact, I took them off. I use my 1066 to mow with and while I wouldn't call the ability to set the height precise, it's close enough that I didn't feel I needed the chains. Plus, I'm constantly dinking with the height anyway based on ground contour, etc.
