I remember the "rumors" before the official unveiling. The engine was supposed to be a BIG 4 cyl, instead of the 6. We were surprised when the 6 was intro'd in the 4010. Apparently someone had info of the 3010 being the "BIG IRON". I also remember the front fuel tank as being unbelievable. This gave the engine a "set back" look. The smooth lines on the hood weren't matched by anyone. Seems every other tractor had to have a hood that came apart in pieces, but the 4010 was smooth & flowing. The 4010 had it's problems, hence the 4020, but I imagine if it would've flopped, there would be no JD today. I'm guessing that percentage-wise, there are more 4010/20s still operating vs the number built than any other tractor? Just a guess. |
