One company I know has a policy of having the main row of equipment sell starting at 1PM , no matter what. If that means they come back to smaller stuff later that's the deal. Once he finished small stuff 30 mins early and bought everyone coffee. He wouldn't start the equipment line early because there would be regular bidders coming for 1PM.

I definitely prefer the auctioneers who sell quick, if I'm interested in an item I know to get in at the beginning, and if I am getting a deal I don't want anyone else in the crowd realising that there is a deal to be had :-)
