But I do know, for me, health insurance was quite a lot more affordable prior to ACA.
The entire situation has discouraged an entire generation (and then some) of would be entrepreneurs. Health insurance for self employed individuals was not a trivial expense pre-ACA, but it was solvable with some planning.
*edited to add, I don't have the details of that inexpensive policy from 20 some years ago, but it was sold as an 'emergency only' plan. Young, healthy, single male at the time. Don't remember co-pay details, but safe to assume it was not 100% coverage after deductible, might have been 80/20. That was a long time ago.
