There are fewer "farm boys". Less kids grow up breaking and fixing and wrenching and experimenting.

Lots of places, ag tech pay sucks relative to shop rate. Ye olde days, tech got $20, shop got $90. Now tech gets $27 and shop get $180+.

Couple of really good younger guys here bought a service truck, and I don't blame them. I hear they are very busy.

I took a couple of mechanic jobs after tech school. The last one before I came back to farm (30+ years ago, I grew a REALLY good relationship with the owners. The last time I dropped by to visit, one of the owners told me that they were really pissed at us farmers nowadays. They said we used to grow a good young next generation and would send them into town to work those kind of jobs. He said that scenario had payed itself out 10 or 15 years ago. Way back when, I was one of those farm kids he was talking about. And yah, my son went into the oil field because of the money.
