Central Illinois | When I first started farming the tonnage per acre of alfalfa was not sufficient and the weeds were a problem. The next year another field of alfalfa was seeded at the rate of 18 pounds per acre. The PH was good and started with and application of fertilizer. I went by the recommendation of the University of Illinois fertilization handbook for the tonnage goal. It recommended 0-200-400. That application produced the alfalfa tonnage and the weeds could not compete. After that initial application only maintenance fertilizer was needed. | |
