I see the ag leader system shows a spinner spreader module, does this also do the rate control, or do you need a rate controller as well?

The Ag Leader Spinner Spreader Module can do it all without the need of a separate rate controller since it is a rate controller/spinner controller itself.

The Spinner Spreader Module would typically be mounted on the fertilizer spreader. It has the ability to control the bed speed by controlling either a Servo or PWM hydraulic valve which controls the oil flow to an orbit motor which runs the bed. A shaft sensor is used to measure the speed of the bed.

As far as the spinner goes, there are three choices 1) do nothing and adjust the speed of the spinner motors by guess 2) install a sensor on the spinners and the spinner speed is displayed so the operator can change the spinner speed manually either via PTO drive or manually adjusting a hydraulic valve 3) use a PWM hydrualic control valve in the spinner hydraulic circuit as well as a spinner speed sensor. Then the desired spinner speed can be entered and the system will automatically attempt to maintain that spinner RPM.

The desired rate can be entered by the operator through the Ag Leader display. An Rx map could be created and saved to a USB stick and the system would attempt to change rates as prescribed by the Rx file on the USB stick.

Some calibration is required since the density, flowability and other factors enter into the picture with a granular product.

The Ag Leader system would require an Ag Leader display in the tractor with a GPS. An Ag Leader switch box control module would also be needed in the tractor as well as the various cables. Most Ag Leader displays would be able to handle the situation.

The amount of extra parts needed would depend on what if any, Ag Leader products you already have. If you have an Ag Leader display, GPS, switchbox etc for a planter setup, only the Spinner/Spreader module and some cabling would need to be added. If you have no Ag Leader devices several "pieces" would be needed.
