Yes 1950's style farming. Cows making money on that acre while building fertility for the cash crop. I'm bringing my personal Joy back to farming. Trying to reduce the stress and being able to enjoy the time with the crop

Yes there was a few acres on that field that did $1950 income. Lol

Yield was not that far off of long-term aph. In my first year of a completely new system during a D3 drought with no tools available that I've used before. This field really impressed me.

The really interesting part is that had I used my normal hybrids and spray just no purchased inputs, this field could have easily ran better than APH.

The North end along the woods and the east side were devastated by the drought. And that's where I started in the first pass going up and going along the woods you're like. Oh crap. Let's hope it gets better from here because we're not off to a good start. And when i was wanting to puke, the wife asked "well, ok, not good start but is it profit". I Said yes, actually it is.

Pretty typical for our area. Your edges next to the woods and a few dry pockets in a field really drag the yield down.

And then you get into the field and things were close to my conventional yields. That gives a guy hope.

Had we gotten a couple inches of rain in July and August the potential was there to run better than long term aph

Next year I'll do some population trials as well as the hybrids

Yield means nothing. If I said the field made 62 bushel or 260 bushel would that mean profit or loss??

As far as profit goes it was a 73% profit margin or you would say a 274% return on investment of direct crop expenses.

And that's where this old-fashioned farming gets fun. This was the first year in a long time that I was fine with whatever my crops were. I was not losing sleep at night over the drought. I can't control the weather so there's no sense stressing about it.
