North Central Illinois | I'm curious about yield too, but "first liar doesn't stand a chance" rules the internet so I can understand a reluctance to say something here.
My first year growing corn I had a little extra seed in the planter, and a little less than an acre patch behind the barn that either had cattle parked on it or grew up in weeds when I was a kid. So I emptied the planter there and cultivated a few times. Did in the 250 bu ballpark.
In more "normal" conditions I've come up a little short on manure and done a check of clover plow down only on a strip and had organic corn run ~160 bu/ac where with my normal manure application rate it went 200.
In the organic game, it is true that one can be very profitable with lower than conventional yields, but given the higher prices there's even more margin to push yields higher if you can. | |
