Wisconsin | First of all, you have hot, neutral (GROUNDED conductor) and ground (GROUNDING conductor, bare wire, or green conductor, or metal conduit). A multimeter will tell you if you have hot, neutral, and ground, if you measure correctly, usually back to the supply coming into the switch box is good.
Sounds like you may have an OPEN neutral? and two hots feeding the two separate switches? so that EITHER of the switches will turn off ALL of the heat lamps?
In that case, you should show 240V between the hot of one of the three outlets, and the hot of the other outlet, with both switches on. That is correct, whether you have the good neutral or not. Measuring to the neutral slot with one switch on and one switch off and the lights plugged in but not on, should show 0V. If the lights don't require both switches on, ignore this paragraph and tell us how exactly they are working. | |
