So they were circling around a large thunderstorm as they should have.

A very small but strong storm formed up in their path as they were skirting around the main storm.

Several other planes also were circling around the large storm, so they were not able to alter their flight path a great deal into other spaces.

They climbed up in an effort to get over the forming small cell I believe?

They were in a plane that could be temperamental to bad weather. Not very forgiving to icing, too fast or too slow?

We had a more experienced pilot, a younger copilot. That seems a good mix for most situations.

What could have been done differently? It’s easy to say just stay home in storms, but that isn’t reality, and they were circling around the storm as would be expected.

What can we learn to keep the next plane from having the same disaster in the same conditions.

The issues seem to be the fast growing mini cell that formed in their new path, and how to control that model of plane through, over, or around such a thing in real time with other planes in the area.
