Nonsense. You place yourself in a position of responsibility, you take the lives of people in your hands, you open yourself for criticism.

This pilot, “Hoover,” probably won’t comment until after the report comes out, but he comments on dozens of incidents like this. He is always polite and respectful, but he does these as a caution to us all.

There are many incidents like this one. There are many where people, particularly women, seem more interested in posing with their aircraft and creating media content than mastering their craft. People like that clearly have an ego issue.

Both of these pilots were young and I have no doubt qualified. Just because you have a license and a rating doesn’t mean you should be doing these things. On his site, “Hoover” shows individuals with instrument ratings who legally can fly in those conditions but have low hours in those conditions and/or low hours of instrument flight in recent months, or just make poor decisions.

These are perishable skills and difficult to maintain, but pilots have to be honest with themselves. When in doubt, don’t.
