West Central MN | Lift is generated by the air traveling faster over the top of the wing, than under the wing, causing the lower pressure area under the wing, which resultant forces the wing up. There is no vacuum on the top of the wing, there would be no lift.
Shape is everything on how much lift a wing develops so ice in the wrong place is bad. The additional ice weight added to the plane doesn't help either.
The higher the altitude, the thinner the air. There are less air molecules for the wing control surfaces to act against for controlling direction of flight and create lift.
