Subject: 1 year into youtube farming

Indiana
For those that care to watch youtube farmers

Almost exactly a year ago (but still 10 years too late) I started doing the youtube farm thing. I already had a channel for my dirtbiking videos and at the time had about 800 subscribers. I put very little effort into it and it showed. I started focusing on the farm stuff at exactly the worst time of the year - after harvest and too late to get much footage of anything else. I learned how to use Davinci Resolve and start editing video and adding sound and other things using youtube tutorials. I posted here too much and felt like I was spamming my stuff so I slowed way down in an effort not to wear out my welcome. 2026 NFMS I walked around and filmed as if I was a spectator and it exploded in views. My normal videos would be lucky to get 100 views in a week. The NFMS got nearly 40,000 by the end of the show weekend. The sub count got me over 1000 and was able to monetize. The growth from there was slow until July when I filmed some restored tractors. Then it really took off. Turns out most don't really care about vlog style videos, at least of me (don't blame anyone there). The interest is in restored 60s and 70s muscle tractors.

In august I started an instagram to funnel traffic to my youtube page. With that, I'm able to see detailed analytics of who watches what and from where. Talk about a shock. 80% of a MASSIVE amount of views for old MF and IH tractors comes from Iran. Middle Easterners LOVE MF tractors. One instagram reel I put up of a restored 1150 is sitting over a half million views. Another of a 1456 and 1206 is at 250k. The vast majority coming from the Middle East. Never would have guessed.

Anyways, it's not much in the grand scheme of things, but I'm now just under 3300 youtube subs and making a few hundred dollars a month from it. The biggest milestone came today, when I got the notification of getting 1 million views in the past 28 days. Absolutely blown away.

A bunch of those views and subs deserve the thanks of Dave9110, who let me come up in August to film his impressive lineup of tractors. Dave, I promise I'll get to the video of the antiques. I've been saving that project for this winter when I can spend the extra time to do a good job with the editing.

As far as the actual farming and filming thing, it's not as bad as you think it might be. I don't film if I'm doing something that really requires attention. A magnetic base and ram mounts allow me to stick it somewhere and forget it while I'm working. I don't let it interfere with operations and it's never caused any issues whatsoever. Same with the drone. I don't fly it unless the autosteer is used. It is pretty cool to hear from locals I've ever met who stop me to say they like to watch. I'll try not to let the fame and fortune change me à la Joe Walsh. I have had inquiries for advertising, which is kind of interesting. I have yet to pull the trigger on that. Still waiting for Deere or CNH to start offering the new equipment leases.

Thanks to those of you who do watch. It's much appreciated.
