This does help clarify what was going on, most likely.

Sad situation, no tinfoil hat needed, just really unfortunate circumstances to catch up with them.

Those cells can form up so quickly.

I read somewhere that the top of cell they hit had risen from 30,000 to 47,000 feet in 20 minutes. Quick indeed.
