Schlegel Farms, Hagerstown Indiana | My wife and I took a short trip down to Lake Cumberland in KY and rode a tourist train on a "scenic foliage run" up into the mountains over the weekend.
Usually, when we travel to visit her family (1000 miles +), I'm in the left lane with the hammer down so we get there as quickly as possible.
This was a trip of less than 300 miles with beautiful mountain scenery; we were in no hurry whatsoever.
I decided I'm going to drive the speed limit all the way.
On the three-lane Interstate, I set the cruise to 72, and on two-lane highways, 56.
Other than semi-trucks using the "truck lane" on hills, I didn't pass anyone the whole trip.
At one point on I-75 around Cincinnati, I sped up to 80+ mph to get around a semi that was blocking my view of the signs... At 80 mph, I still wasn't keeping up with most of the traffic. My observation from the trip is: "IF YOU DRIVE THE SPEED LIMIT....YOU ARE IN THE WAY"! |
