Everything from pickups to tractors seem to be designed and built to require more service department repairs than older machines. Now GM has eliminated the engine oil dipstick in some trucks in favor of a oil level sensor. A Sensor would be a good addition, but a dipstick should be available as a backup to the sensor.

According to this link, there is no room for a dipstick on some of the newly designed engines due to a cramped engine compartment.

GM’s New Truck V8s Have No Dipstick Because Port Injection Left No Room for One

GM’s new 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter truck V8s have no oil dipstick. The reason is not the touchscreen. Port injection hardware left nowhere to route the tube.

"This is the part missing from most of the coverage. At GM’s powertrain event in Flint, Michigan, Randy Dufresne, design system engineer for the Gen 6 small block, was asked directly why the dipstick was going away. His answer was physical space.

The new V8s use both direct and port fuel injection. The port injection hardware and the components added alongside it consumed the room a dipstick tube would have occupied. In Dufresne’s words, “There is no way to put a dipstick to route it in the engine” without resorting to something that snakes awkwardly through the bay."
