NE Ohio | We have owned an Arrowquip 87 series manual chute, alley w/scales, & tub combo with hydraulic lift wheels for four years. Overall the setup works very well and was a big upgrade from the Palco system we used for over 25 years. You still need to be wise in how you use it (don’t overload the tub, orient in a direction cattle want to go, etc.). After our cows and crew got used to it we’re able to keep cows flowing so the processing isn’t held up.
I did a lot of research on what was available in the Ohio area before purchasing. Arrowquip was the best choice for us in a portable system which regularly gets moved between two farms. I appreciate the engineering that was put into all the little things. For example, I’m often the one in the palpation cage and like not having to duck every time going in and out. There are some minor things I would like to change, but would likely make the same purchase again if buying today. Their phone and text support has also been excellent in dealing with a couple of minor issues after we purchased it.
As others have suggested, I would at least want the head gate to be hydraulic if I was doing 300 head of cows and their calves. Averaging the cost over the life of the system makes it (somewhat ;-) easier to justify the investment.
