| Your mix picks are the right ones for no incorporation - ryegrass and crimson clover are the standard aerial covers in the South exactly because the small seed germinates right on the surface. Timing before defoliation works well: the leaf drop afterward acts as a light mulch over the seed. With pivots you're in the best position of anyone - top-seeded covers live or die on getting moisture in the first week, and you can guarantee it. Rates for drone or aerial work: 15-20 lb per acre on the ryegrass and 10-15 lb on the crimson, and use inoculated clover seed. One thing to think through: if wheat is anywhere in the rotation behind that cotton, annual ryegrass can turn into a weed problem - cereal rye is the safer grass in that case. - Henry | |
