| The own-the-drone path exists today, with one honest limitation: telling weeds from crop with plain RGB is the hard part once the canopy starts closing, not the flying. What works now on a DIY setup: fly early (V3-V6 corn, rows still visible) at 1 inch per pixel or better, and map the between-row patches - those segment cleanly with a green-index threshold (ExGR) in free tools like QGIS with the SCP plugin. From there you export a polygon shapefile and most sprayer controllers will take it as a prescription map. In-row weeds in standing corn at post timing still need either multispectral plus a trained model (the agremo/Taranis subscription territory you've seen) or a see-and-spray machine. The cheapest version of your exact goal: scout with the drone early, make one targeted post pass on the patches, and skip the blanket application. On non-GMO corn with no trait safety net, that's usually where the money is. - Henry | |
