Subject: Our Approach

I didn't get much response in machinery talk. So I was wondering is the brock quantum internet access still working?

I don't know its status. We explored an internet service for our dryer but were turned off by the subscription fee.

We mounted a camera in the dryer shack that points at the dryer display and my homemade wet bin level indicators. The camera connects to the internet through a WiFi extender in the dryer shack and the view is available on a dedicated website.

This allows us to view the dryer and wet bin level status via our smartphones. Due to space limitations and expansion through the years, we have two wet bins. Using two wet bins has certain advantages but also makes it confusing at times to know their status.

Our approach does not have an automatic warning feature which the dedicated dryer survelliance systems likely have. This means we need to initiate the action ourselves. Our dryer display turns red if there has been an automatic shutdown so it is easily visible through the camera.

We are able to check the wet bin levels from the outside, inside the dryer shack or on our smartphones. The bin level sensors inside each wet holding bin are Deere combine grain tank level sensors.

The "lights" on the external indicators are truck LED clearance units. They are designed to be out in the weather and run on 12VDC. The wet bin level system runs on 12VDC from a 110VAC to 12VDC power supply.

The first picture is what we can see on our phones. The second picture shows the homemade external bin level indicators I made for each wet holding bin.

The camera arrangement would be very similar to using one of those baby or survelliance camera setups. Actually I'm using an old Android tablet at home as a survelliance camera which could be used for this purpose also. At home I use a website called Alfred which uses cameras or the picture taking abilities of a smartphone or tablet as the picture source. The website can be viewed through the Alfred website on any device that has access to the internet. There is a minor charge for Alfred.
