Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | I happened to watch part of a YouTube video from Chem Resin Tech (?) this morning. He showed how he created a sensor system to aid in parking a car in a garage. The video I watched was his improved version. Apparently he has some earlier videos of his previous unit.
Some of his ideas for centering the car forward/back and left/right might be useful for your project. His system controlled an LED light strip to aid in parking the car. I remember he did mention that he had to use a fairly expensive distance sensor for this project to get the accuracy he needed. Accurate distance measuring is likely important for your cattle spray project. His project was not automatic since the driver still had to make the decision as far as how to steer left/right and forward/back.
Possibly a combination of the fore/aft sensor and the side/side sensor could determine when the animal has entered "far enough" so they don't back out. I'm sure some trial & error distance adjustments would be necessary.
I've been fooling around with Ardunios and ESP 32 projects for a couple of Winters now. I have created a batcher to help me mix batches of spray for the farm using a flow meter with a large display. Also I have setup remote phone controls for my shop and shed door openers. I have barely scratched the surface of all the possibilities.
Even if you do not pick up much in ideas, I think you might find the videos interesting.
Feel free to email me if you wish. My email is in my Profile. I don't know that I will be much help but your idea is interesting.
