Here's link to the short article just posted on UAV Coach newsletter
Following is a copy/paste of the bullet points from the article:
Here’s what drone pilots need to know:→ Comment by September 2—the deadline is less than two weeks away. - The FCC is deciding how broadly to apply these seven categories. If the proposal could affect your work, equipment, farm, business, or department, now is the time to put that impact into the official record.
- Tell the FCC how these drones and capabilities are used in your work, business, farm, department, or community. Here’s how to submit a comment.
- If the FCC adopts the proposal, affected imports and sales would stop 180 days after the final action is published in the Federal Register.
→ The FCC identified seven categories of drones and drone components that could be blocked. - They include drones weighing 55 pounds or more, agricultural spraying drones, thermal drones, drones with LiDAR, drone docking stations, drones designed to incorporate defense articles, and swarming drones—including light-show drones.
- However, the FCC hasn’t identified the specific drone models that would be blocked.
→ Only future drone sales would be blocked. - The proposal could potentially affect your ability to buy certain DJI drones—and other foreign-made drones—that currently have approval for sale in the U.S.
→ You won’t have to give up the drone you already own. - If some DJI and other foreign-made drone models are blocked, you can still keep and use one you already purchased.
- That said, replacement drones, components, and repair parts could become harder to find if the proposal passes.
