Missouri | EatBeef01 - 8/21/2026 21:40 I agree with you. Especially with the spineless, bought-and-paid-for NCBA comment. Just thinking out loud…what would happen if there was some sort of CRP type program. Prairie grasses, no alfalfa. The gov. subsidized the seeding, paid a below average rent, but then allowed the landowner to take 2 cuttings of gras hay off/year. I think it would help the grain prices by taking fridge acres off, and it would help with herd rebuilding. I’ve been told such a program exists, but I haven’t been able to find it anywhere.
So on one hand we have tax payer dollars bidding to take acres out of crop and grazing production and into CRP. On the other hand we have the government bidding with subsidies to turn grass acres into crop acres. Now we want a third hand bidding on crop acres to put them back into grass?
It'd make a hell of a lot more sense to just remove some of the government bidding so people could do what is right for their land without taking a huge financial hit while doing so. |
