Driftless SW Wisconsin | My disc mower has worked well for 13 years with just knives and bolts every other year or so. It will certainly cover more acres per hour than a sickle bar machine with less maintenance. One of the rock guards rusted out and took out a couple turtles etc. very repairable if expensive.
I've run sickles on combine platforms but never on a moco. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the old sickle worked on this tough hay.
ETA I believe the sickle machine used A lot less HP and fuel per acre than a disc machine.
