They make it worse by killing the ones that make the worst quality meat. I had a 6 year old ram butchered because he was worth $75 but had a LOT of meat on him. Thank goodness for spices and I haven't done that again yet. The saying among goat producers is "bad goat is like good venison!"
The shepherd I've bought my last two rams from deer hunts for meat. He says that you should only shoot deer that almost still have spots. Just like with domestic animals, optimal eating quality is at somewhere under full mature weight. |
