Took my 12 yr old son to lunch with me at a local bbq joint today. 4 mi down the road. Has always been good and for just a sandwich and side relatively cheap. It’s been in the neighborhood 7-8 yrs or so now.
I called my order in on the phone and stated we’d be dining in. We were the only 2 in there as it was 2:00. First experience I’ve had with the owner. He was belittling 2 employees because they used his ink pens. Was pretty rough with them. Then when he was near us he said to me,” next time you call ahead, tell us you are dining in so I don’t have to spend money on boxes and bags. I told him I did state that.
Had my son not been with me I probably would’ve told him what he could do with the boxes. Evidently there wasn’t enough margin in the meals to cover them.
Maybe I took it wrong and I sound like a sad little snowflake but he doesn’t need any more money from me.
Opposite experience for me. We went to the UP last weekend. On Sunday, we stopped at a Cafe that had a new owner. There were a couple tables when we entered, we were the only ones when we left, it looked very slow (very small town and he put a lot of money I to it). The waitress was very friendly, but knew nothing. Turns out it was her first day ever, just covering for her cousin, but was smi,ING and seemed like she was enjoying the place. We ordered, and the cooks and owners were in the back singing to whatever came on the radio. We were laughing and enjoying it. At the end, the owner (I assume) came out and talked to us briefly. I pass through there a handful of times a year, and will stop in more when I go thru. Whenever I have a good experience, I try to leave a 5 star review for them to help them out, I don't know that I everleave a bad review, in case it just happened to be a bad day. |
