In my neck of the woods a good wooded 40 that could support 15 pairs with calves for the summer is now hunting ground and god forbid there is more nature out there than whitetail deer. Go to buy the ground and they want 5k an acre for it.... 5K an acre what you would pay you are just better off buying hay and confinement feeding them. But guess what nobody makes hay on poor ground because you can get crop insurance on it and plant corn... If the producer had to pay 100% of crop insurance and not 1/3 you would have land going back to idle/pasture. | |
