Can't explain why, but old heads here always said that never works......................Want to drain it,pull it out on a farm lane and pull all the plugs out and on the gun/cart(Had Reel Rain's here for the most part, which had a cap on the other side where the hard hose was clamped on for such things as this) remove cap/plug. Once it is pulled out, air will work, although at that point you don't really need it, but it sure doesn't work with the hard hose in and on the reel. Why I do not know. Where I am/grew up, not everyone had tractors the size they should have to move them with water in the reels yet on the roads, so I got alot of experience of fun doing the above. Was an amazing day in life when when moved the first one with a dualed up and weighted 5288 and could just throw the supply pressure hose on the tongue and take off to the next reel pull.

Were you using this reel this year? We always drained them before winter because the canning company had one they forgot and the water freezing destroyed the turbine among other things. That would have to be worse yet at your location. Even with engine drive for the reel, water in one during the winter would make me nervous. Parts for them from Amadas are insane in price.
