As kid, my dad established most of our hay fields by planting alfalfa with the wheat crop, which HERE meant it got planted AFTER September 15th (Hession Fly free date). Now, this was most likely plain old Vernal, uncoated seed. Perhaps a bushel of oats would provide the 'cover 'that the smaller seedlings need to survive?
