East of Broken Bow | If you liked Paul Harvey and his 'Rest of the Story' series, check out Mike Rowe's new (to me at least) show called 'The Story Behind the Story'.
Basically, it starts out with Rowe telling a story, much like Harvey's Rest of the Story, the one I watched a couple days ago told about the first American in the mainland USA to know that Stalin had died. He was a code reader for the military, who sat at a table with earphones jotting down messages in Morse Code. The last word of the message he got was the word 'dead', and the guy made the dit dit dit daaa daaa daaa of the Morse Code of that word very famous. I can almost guarantee you have heard it, and if I mentioned the guy's name, you would know the guy.
Anyway, after he tells you his version of The Rest of The Story, he sat down with a historian of some sort, and they discussed the story in much greater detail, along with some commentary. Rowe commented how many people were surprised at the name of the man, but pointed out that many famous people had ordinary lives before they were famous, especially if they were in the military.
If no one knows or can guess who he is, and where they heard the dits and daaas of the morse code, I'll come back and let you know. I will give you a hint, though:
The Morse Code for the word 'Dead' is in a very famous guitar riff in a very famous song.
Anyway, I found the show, or at least the couple episodes I watched, very interesting, something to watch on a rainy day. Lasts somewhere between 20 minutes and a half hour (I'm guessing it would be a half hour show with normal commercial breaks, but I watch it streaming on Angel, with none so it's just a guess). | |
