Earlville, NY | Used to be they would use helicopters to check in the sorty of ships to scour the area for former Soviet subs. Maybe they still do it. They used to eject sonobuoys into the water to listen for subs, and have a much more powerful one they could dip in the water from the helicopter. A few technicians would listen for subs on headphones playing sound and radar from the sonar.
