A good working cow weaning a $2,800 calf is grossing $7.67 a day 365 days a year. A guy can pay more than a measly dollar or two.
Doesnt matter as much as the cost of feed. If the farmer has the means to feed it for $1.5 no sense in paying someone else to do it for 3 and truck it both ways. Margins likely wont stay as good as they are for ever. Many ranchers barely broke even for 40 years before the last few. |
