NW Washington | Plant afila type peas, which tend to cling together and not fall flat as regular peas do when they get ripe. Personally, I think planting AW peas in the spring will work and won't have much effect on their winter hardiness. AW peas aren't very winter-hardy, even in the best conditions.
Burning the peas down before harvest may ding up the peas' germination rate, depending on what you use to kill them.
