When you get to Louisville I’d recommend taking the bypass (I 264)from I65 around to I64, you miss a lot of Louisville traffic, though still fairly heavy and will save some time

I have relatives near Asheville and us usually take I 74 all the way to Cincinnati, hit 265 over to I65 down to 40 one way & the other way home

Was there in May for my brother’s funeral. 40 was slow down through the “Gorge “ , 30-40 mph but never had any lengthy stops, 5 minutes a couple times.

If you’re not in a big hurry & want to see some gorgeous scenery get off of I40 and take the Blue Ridge Parkway through the Smokies. When in Asheville I’d highly recommend taking a tour of the Biltmore House. Best to get tour tickets online a head of time
