West Union, Illinois

I've had it so long and tried so many things I had to think what I've tried and done. So if this is confusing and disjointed it's just how I think.

My first bout with it was in the early 80's.  I was working as a DSM for a little seed company and spent a day working a booth at the Farm Progress Show. At he time it was diagnosed as tendonitis.  After going to my GP Dr. and fighting tendonitis for a while I finally went to a podiatrist.  He said first thing is quit wearing cowboy boots.  For my feet they were just going to cause trouble.

Hurt my pride but helped my feet.

As I recall part of the treatment sounded like a farmer.  Every morning I'd tape the arches of my feet with duct tape.  Just a couple strips, and not all the way around my foot.  Just a couple strips in a U on the bottom of the foot and an inch or two on the sides to hold it.

At night remove any duct tape that survived the day and soak my feet in water as warm as I was comfortable with.  Then wash and dry.  In preparation for the next part freeze a couple water bottles.  Then while sitting watching TV set the bottles on a towel on the floor and roll the arch of my foot back and forth over the bottle for 10-15 minutes.

This went on felt like forever and repeat when needed.

At the same time the Podiatrist had custom orthotics made.  As I recall I stepped into a mold material which was then used to make custom shoe inserts.  When I started wearing them my foot step ... straightened is the best description.   You could see a difference in my footprints.  It changed how I walked.  It required getting used to the feel, but not only did my feet feel better, so did my back.

Today I have a set of custom orthotics in my main work boots and my dress shoes.

For me it seems having a slightly elevated heal helps.  In other words no Berkenstock sandals or Crocs.  I do have a pair of Crocs at the back door I bought at a yard sale  They're by quick trip out to the truck to get what I forgot footwear.   I have some over the counter shoe inserts for plantar fasciitus in my shoes I don't wear as much. Casual shoes, insulated boots, etc. Whatever it takes to get the angle and elevation that feels comfortable.

Like so many things with the body, there is no quick and easy cure
