I-40 is still one lane each way, right? That's vulnerable to break downs and delays, especially if you go at a busy time. I came through Easter Morning a year ago and it was busier than I expected, but sailed right through. One of the tiny exits had a camper trailer with a flat and completely destroyed rim from having to keep moving, so that might have been the backup I was experiencing.
