Subject: RE: Latchless silage endgate

SW OH
One of these days I'm going to build my next dump trailer, 2.0
It will have an automatic tailgate. The tailgate will be 1 piece, with pins sticking out the sides similar to a standard dump bed but sticking outside the width of the bed. The gate itself will be free swinging on a pipe across the top. This would not be needed for silage but will be for my needs. At the bottom of the bed sides there will be a notch for the pin on the gate to hold the gate closed when down. The cross pipe at the top of the tailgate will be fastened to an arm on each side that hinges on the bed side about 4 feet from the back. The arms will be 8 feet long and a chain or cable will be attached to a cross bar on the frame under the bed. Mine will be built with overkill since I will be hauling different things including soupy manure. If only hauling silage it could be made more simple.
